I agree Cynthia! I think part of being an administrative professional is being part proactive and part reactive. There are new priorities coming in on the daily so a mix of looking ahead but also adjusting priorities as needed.

Our branch recently had a virtual event where the speaker discussed how we react to others. I thought that was a good one.

Basically the soft skills all come in handy, and of course hard skills make everything efficient.

    Kind regards,
    Caitlyn

For me, it's project management.  Project management skills can be used to map out your exec's portfolio, track deliverables/dependencies and timelines, as well as managing specific projects.

Organization, communication and ability to work independently. We need to be organized to complete our work; we need to be able to communicate to ensure we understand instructions and also give feedback; we need be able to recognize work that needs to be done before being told to do so.

Continued professional development is essential for all administrative professionals. I continue to grow professionally and my position grows with me.

    Hi Tara,

Rhonda Scharf has a course "Project Management for Non-Project Managers".  Schulich offers a 3 day course "Foundations of Project Management".  I also did a course through Metropolitan University.

    Hope this helps.

    Patricia

Communication is a key skill.  The office can't run without my bosses and I knowing what is going on.
I do a touch in every morning, either in person or on Teams so we are set for the day and know the priorities.
This works in family life as well.  LOL
